How did you first hear about Homes England?

I first heard about Homes England through an apprenticeship vacancy website, until then I wasn’t aware of Homes England or the work they do.

What do you do?

I had previously carried out an Internship with the Civil Service whilst at University and my ongoing interest in politics and policy led me to Homes England. When doing some research in to the organisation it felt different to other government agencies, it resonated with me. Luckily there were also lots of opportunities that matched my skills and experience.

We’re proud to be named as a Stonewall Top 100 LGBT+ inclusive employer, and for the third consecutive year as a disability confident employer.

Homes England strives to be an employer of choice, recognising diversity through our values. We know that a diverse and inclusive organisation empowers teams to perform better and that diversity of backgrounds, perspectives, thoughts and ideas will provide a richer platform for us to do things differently and challenge the status quo.

Being a diverse organisation will also give us a better understanding of the housing needs of the communities we serve and help us achieve our mission: to intervene in the housing market to ensure more homes are built in the areas of greatest need.

We welcome everyone who believes in our mission and shares our values, regardless of their age, belief, disability, ethnicity, gender identity, maternity status, marital status, pregnancy, religion, sex or sexual orientation. We want everyone at Homes England to thrive, and this means feeling that they can bring their whole self to work and feel a sense of belonging, knowing that they play an important part in fulfilling our mission. Homes England has already taken steps to further improve equality and diversity, establishing networks including our Gender; Black and Minority Ethnic; Disability and Carers, Neurodiversity, Faith and LGBT+ networks. They are the heartbeat of our organisation and play a critical role in shaping our culture. We’re extremely proud of the work they do.

We’ve made great progress over the past few years, being named as a Stonewall Top 100 LGBT+ inclusive employer, and for the third consecutive year as a disability confident employer. There’s still work to do in becoming an agency that exemplifies the best in diversity and inclusion and we’re fully committed to achieving this ambition.
