Working in a team reporting to the Senior Delivery Support Manager and management of a small team of 4 Business Support Officers, the Development Secretary plays a critical role in managing the Secretariat and Governance process for the Northern Delivery Area, Contingent Assets, Liabilities and Commercial Disposal and York Central teams. You will be joining our small, friendly and talented teams who are committed to making positive change by providing first class support to the Development directorate.
The Senior Delivery Support Manager believes in delivering a first-class customer service to the development team, providing crucial support and advice and taking an innovative and creative approach to governance issues. They believe in working in a collaborative/flexible way to foster good decision making and problem solving within the team.
This is a rare chance to shape the future governance processes in a fast growing, national organisation with real social purpose. Working with key stakeholders and a professional team you will ensure efficient, consistent and effective governance support and they have the opportunity to help create processes and procedures to deliver a first-class support service.
The role will support the delivery of key development projects across the development team areas. There are some exciting and creative projects to get involved with and this is an excellent opportunity to balance day to day delivery whilst bringing innovative solutions to the local decision-making offering.
You'll be experienced in providing secretariat support to a Board and/or Committee and will be comfortable supporting the Directors & Senior Managers with complex governance issues aiming to ensure that due process is followed. You will be proficient in providing governance expertise, accurate minuting and possess the excellent organisational skills required to maintain action logs and coordinate papers and reports to an auditable standard and will be skilled in the use Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams whilst Adobe Acrobat would be desirable.
Delivering on a mission as bold as ours isn’t always easy. You will have excellent communication skills and will be resilient and comfortable in influencing, challenging and managing stakeholders at a senior level and your discussions will always be shaped by a good understanding of the commercial and operational impact of what we do as a development support team. You will enjoy working in an innovative, fun and engaging way and be able to negotiate and persuade.
The Development directorate is spread across 3 regions, each with a secretariat for local governance / decision making which feeds into National Boards with their own secretariat and therefore, as an experienced professional you’ll understand how to manage colleagues and be able to demonstrate you can work closely with others as part of a team in a collaborative, inclusive way. An understanding and experience of public sector governance, along with experience of matrix management as manager or the managed, would be desirable but not essential for these positions.
