A bit about the role...
Working in a team led by Shahi Islam, our Director of Affordable Housing, the Assistant Director will play a critical role in shaping the future delivery of the flagship Social and Affordable Homes Programme as well as our wider grant management responsibilities. You will be working across our enthusiastic and highly skilled affordable housing team, who are committed to making positive change in the availability for a safe and secure home for everyone.
Shahi is dedicated to ensuring he oversees a inclusive and engaged team, resolving issues informally wherever possible and working in an open and collaborative way, valuing diversity in experience and perspective to foster good decision making and problem solving within his team.
We are seeking an experienced leader with a proven track record of working on change programmes and strategy development in the public sector. The successful person will be accountable to the Director of Affordable Housing in leading the successful delivery of an end-to-end transformation review. The team has just received one of the biggest settlements for the Programme to be delivered over 10 years. The scale, ambition and length of the programme alongside wider Agency changes to a regional model requires a deep dive in to the current way of working.
This is a rare chance to shape the future of affordable housing delivery in a fast growing, national organisation with real social purpose. Working with key stakeholders across the directorate and the wider agency, you will be responsible for leading a transformational root and branch review of the programme’s systems and processes.
A bit about you…
You’ll have considerable depth and breath of experience in leading business change reviews and delivering highly complex change programmes in the public sector.
As an experienced change professional you’ll understand how to engage with teams across a range of disciplines and communicate difficult messages with empathy. You’ll be able to demonstrate you can work with others as part of a team in a collaborative, inclusive way.
Delivering on a mission as bold as ours isn’t always easy. You will be resilient and comfortable managing stakeholders at a senior level and your discussions will always be shaped by a good understanding of the commercial and operational impact of what we do as an affordable housing team. You will enjoy working in an innovative, fun and engaging way and be able to negotiate and persuade.
Who are we?
Homes England : The Housing and Regeneration Agency
We believe that affordable, quality homes in well-designed places are key to improving people’s lives. As the government’s housing and regeneration agency, we create thriving new places and transform urban areas, combining the full breadth of our powers, expertise, land, capital and influence to bring investment to communities and get more homes built.
How? We form long-term partnerships that bridge the gap between the public and private sector to meet local needs and aspirations. We use our influence to champion the creation of sustainable homes, communities and places that are brilliantly designed for the people that live there now, and in the future. And we use our funding and support to build a more resilient, diverse and innovative housing sector, helping new entrants in the market, encouraging modern methods of construction and design, and promoting the utmost attention to building safety.
Together with our partners, we’re accelerating the pace of house building, remediation and regeneration across the country, as we seek to deliver ever more affordable homes in places people are proud to call home for generations to come.
